Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has admitted his form has been hit by ongoing physical issues that could force him to undergo surgery after the Euros.

The 23-year-old has been forced to play through the pain barrier over the last 12 months with ankle and shoulder injuries taking their toll.

Rashford ended the Premier League season with just nine goals and has lost his place in the England starting XI. But he insists he has no regrets over his decision to not go under the knife during the 2020-21 campaign.

‘Obviously I am not performing at my best and what I know I can perform to,’ Rashford said.

‘Whatever that is down to, it doesn’t really matter because it has been going on since early on in the season.

‘I managed to get through the season with United. I think I had 36 goal involvements so I can’t look back at the year and say ‘I should have taken time off to do this and do that.’

‘That’s just not the way I look at things. I just want to be available for every game.’

Rashford’s shoulder injury could see him require surgery after England’s campaign this summer which could in-turn delay his start to the 2021-22 season with United.

‘I don’t think that’s a secret,’ he said of the shoulder issue.

‘I think it’s quite well known and to get to this stage where I am now, it was a massive aim of mine back at the beginning of the season.

‘I have to decide after (the Euros). It’s either an operation or I don’t get an operation.

‘I’m not 100 per cent sure if I need it yet. So I’ll just take it as it comes. I’ll finish strong here and I’ve got a few weeks off to just relax and decide what I’m going to do.’
