GB News presenter Nana Akua branded her co-host Darren McCaffrey a ‘hypocrite’ as they got into a heated clash over the coronavirus vaccine.
The Great British Breakfast hosts, along with Kirsty Gallacher, were discussing reports that the Government could make the Covid jab compulsory for staff working in care homes across England.
During their debate on Wednesday, Darren and Kirsty said it was unfair to essentially force people to have the jab while Nana argued that the staff have a choice not to work in care homes if they don’t want it.
Nana asked Darren: ‘Did you go to Africa? Did you get the yellow jab?’
However, as her co-host attempted to interrupt, she continued: ‘No, let me stop you there because you’re about to be a hypocrite.
‘You were prepared to have to do something [in order to go on holiday]… Therefore, what you’ve just said there is hypocritical.’
Kirsty weighed in: ‘We’re taking people’s freedoms away about what we do with our bodies.
‘I’m not against the vaccines, I have my own concerns,’ to which Nana said: ‘We all do.’
The Guardian reported that the Government is expected to announce the rule, which will also apply to other health workers, in the next few days.
Andrew Neil’s GB News launched on Sunday with a special statement from the former BBC journalist.
He told viewers: ‘Welcome to the launch of GB News, Britain’s news channel, dedicated to covering the news that matters to you and to giving a voice to those who felt sidelined or even silenced in our great national debates. Because if it matters to you, it matters to us.’
Andrew emphasised that GB News will ‘not follow the existing news agenda’ that other broadcasters might, aiming to address stories ‘in a different way’ to their competitors with its ‘passionate presenters’.
The Great British Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on GB News.
