Emmerdale’s Faith Dingle (Sally Dexter) has been in agony in recent weeks.
The stalwart of the ITV soap fell to the floor when looking after baby Frankie last week, and subsequently took painkillers to numb the pain.
Next week, however, she collapses once again, leaving Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) concerned.
Eric therefore calls Brenda Walker (Lesley Dunlop) and tells her he’s going to take a trip to the cash and carry, when in reality he’s decided that he’s going to drive Faith to the hospital.
Faith misinterprets his intentions, but laughs it off, claiming that this is the second time she’s ‘not got the joke’ on the day in question.
‘Do you think it’s a sign?’, she jokingly says to Eric, ‘am I going to die?!’
However, after Eric leaves her, Faith loses her smile, evidently concerned about what she’s just said.
It’s clear that Faith is worried that her cancer might have returned.
‘There is a sort of an achiness that’s developing, along with great stress and tiredness, and she’s just putting it down to stress and tiredness and that she’d been living in a hearse, which never helps,’ actress Sally Dexter told Metro.co.uk.
‘So it starts very gradually, but it gets worse quite quickly, exponentially. I would never use that word until recent times, but there you go.
‘I think in the back of her mind she really feels [the cancer might have come back]. I mean because that’s the fear, but she’s Faith so she has faith, and she will battle arms as much as she can, until she knows exactly what she’s dealing with.’
Emmerdale airs this scene Thursday July 1 on ITV.
