A murder probe has been launched after a boy, 17, was found dead and a man, 20, seriously injured following an assault near a cinema.

Details of the altercation are not yet known, but police were called to the scene in Swadlincote, South Derbyshire on Saturday night.

Both were found in an alleyway next to the Odeon in Coppice Side.

Paramedics tried to save the teenager, who has not been named, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Pipeworks retail and leisure park remained closed for most of the day as officers began their investigation.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

They particularly want to speak to people who were on Rink Drive, near the back of the Odeon, between 10pm and 11pm.
