Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg wants another loan exit this summer after enjoying his time at Preston North End in the Championship this season where he made 16 league appearances.
The 19-year-old, who plays at centre-back and right-back, moved to Deepdale at the start of February and has been a regular in Alex Neil’s side since then, making 15 starts in the Championship.
The Reds may have had serious problems at centre-back so far this season, with the long-term injuries suffered by Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, but with all three expected to be back for the start of the next campaign, Van den Berg is keen to go elsewhere and gain more experience again.
‘I don’t really know where I will be in the summer. I want to go on loan again,’ the Dutchman told the Liverpool ECHO. ‘That’s what I’d prefer. I will see, there is no rush. I have a nice little break to think about it.
‘I want to be out on loan in the summer and to gain more experience so I can be ready when I come back to Liverpool to play in the first team.
‘I have to wait and see what the plan is and see what the chances are for me to go on loan again.
‘I have grown a lot during my time here and during the whole year. I have felt that I have become stronger and more experienced here. My time at Preston has really helped. We will see.
‘My loan has gone well and I really like it here. I like the league I’m playing in. It’s tough but I’ve been playing a lot of games as well. It’s been good for me, it’s been a really good experience for me.’
Preston boss Neil has been impressed with the Netherlands Under-19 player, saying in March: ‘I’ve been really pleased with his progress – he’s come on a ton so yeah, he’s doing well for us just now.’
Preston finished 13th in the Championship after a strong finish to the season saw them win their last four league games.
