Easter Monday is a treat for many – waking up and not feeling guilty about having chocolate for breakfast (lunch and dinner).

The bank holiday follows the Christian holiday of Easter Sunday, which believers of Christ understand to be the day his tomb was found empty and he had resurrected.

Easter Sunday sees many stores closed but is it the same on Easter Monday? What shops are open today?

Are the shops open on Easter Monday?

With non-essential shops still closed until at least April 12, it will only be supermarkets and other food shops open today.

Many supermarkets and shops will be open today because, unlike Easter Sunday where trading laws dictate stores over a certain size close for the day, no such laws pertain to this bank holiday.

However, stores might be operating under different opening hours to give employees an earlier finish or later start.
