A murder investigation has been launched after a 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death on a busy high street in south London.
Police rushed to the junction of Hazel Grove and Sydenham Road at 7.20pm last night following reports of a young man lying injured on the ground.
They found the 17-year-old with stab injuries and he was pronounced dead shortly after at 8pm.
According to a witness at the scene there was a heavy police presence and an air ambulance in attendance.
The teenager was fatally stabbed on a busy stretch of Sydenham Road, with shops, cafes and houses, and a stream of cars driving past.
Not far away is a Lidl supermarket that was still open at 7.20pm, the time of the attack.
Officers are urging anyone with information about the incident to get in touch.
A police spokesperson said: ‘Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to call 101, providing the reference CAD6072/10APR.
‘Information can also be provided to Crimestoppers, anonymously, by calling 0800 555 111.’
