Rupert Everett ‘felt no guilt having an affair with Paula Yates while she was with Bob Geldof’

Rupert Everett has admitted he felt ‘no guilt’ in conducting a six-year affair with Paula Yates during her marriage to Bob Geldof.

The actor is the latest star to join the Piers Morgan’s Life Stories hot seat, and in this Thursday’s episode he speaks out about his unlikely six-year affair with TV presenter Paula.

Paula was with Bob Geldof for 20 years, getting together in 1976 and marrying in 1986, but the relationship was not without its issues, with several accusations of infidelity.

Rupert has since opened up about loving Paula, who sadly died in 2000 from a heroin overdose, and the bizarre situation he found himself in as a third wheel in their marriage.

In a preview clip of the chat with Piers, Rupert confirmed he was with Big Breakfast host Paula ‘before, during and after’ her high profile relationship.

Rupert said: ‘We were very, very close, I must say, for a long time, and she’s someone that I adored and still do.

‘I think I was in love with her. I adored her.’

‘How did you square off Bob in all this?’ Piers asked, causing Rupert to say he ‘just ignored him’, and added that the Live Aid organiser knew about the affair.

When Piers asked if he felt guilty carrying on the relationship under Bob’s nose, Rupert said no, and added: ‘I don’t know, I think it would be for her to feel guilty, not me.’

The upcoming tell-all interview, Rupert will talk about discovering his sexuality, and his brush with serial killer Dennis Nilsen.

He will also discuss the effects the HIV crisis had on his life.

Piers Morgan’s Life Stories airs Thursdays at 9pm on ITV.
