Deranged Paul Ashdale (Reece Dinsdale) is to find his world falling apart on next week’s Emmerdale when he’s confronted about his abusive actions by a tenacious Liv Flaherty (Isobel Steele)
Paul is under the illusion that all will be well in his world if he can just make it to his wedding day. But on the day of his and Mandy’s (Lisa Riley) nuptials, a dogged Liv will back Paul into a corner in a bid in get him to confess his crimes.
Fans of the ITV soap have already witnessed what happens when Vinny (Bradley Johnson) gets on the wrong side of his sadistic father.
But would Paul mete out the same kind of violence to Liv?
‘We know that his drunkard father hit Paul,’ actor Reece Dinsdale told Metro.co.uk, ‘and that he’s now learned to hit other people and share that terrible violence.
‘But there’s no evidence of him ever having hit a woman. The one female who wouldn’t entertain that for a second is Mandy. There wouldn’t be a wedding if there was even an inkling that he’d done that for a woman.’
The trouble is, though, that with Paul now on the ropes thanks to Liv’s detective work, there’s the horrible risk of him coming out fighting:
‘Paul is now a cornered animal. He’s trapped in a barn with Liv, who holds all the cards. To start with, he does what he always does and denies everything. But the more she says, the more Paul starts to lose control.’
All of which begs the question: just how far will Paul go to ensure that Liv stays silent? ‘I can’t say too much,’ says Dinsdale, ‘but he takes to a point where Paul has to make that decision – would he hit Liv or not? Would he put her in danger or not? And we go right to the wire with that.’
