Martha (Belinda Giblin) has recently received a letter from a mystery person, saying they will be seeing each other soon. Although she managed to hide her emotions just after receiving it, she struggles to keep up the facade.
Deciding to handle the issue back in Merimbula, Martha tells Alf (Ray Meagher) she’s planning on heading back for a while. However, he offers to go with her – which is the last thing she wants. She snaps in response, which only serves to rouse his suspicion.
In the Diner, Martha breaks down in front of Irene (Lynne McGranger) and tells her the truth – she has a son from her relationship in between her marriages to Alf. Nobody knows, and now it looks like he’s planning on coming to the Bay.
Irene promises to keep her secret, but warns her that hiding the truth from her family isn’t a good idea. Roo (Georgie Parker) tries to get information out of her, but fails. Meanwhile, Alf gets increasingly frustrated and threatens to drive to Merimbula himself to find out the truth.
Eventually, Martha decides to confess the truth, and Alf can’t believe what he’s hearing. While Martha had hoped he would react at least neutrally to the news she has a grown up son called Kieran, the only question her husband has is – if Kieran had never tried to contact her, would she ever have told him the truth?
