Married At First Sight Australia fans were left fuming over rumours that one of the show’s stars could be returning to the much-loved reality series for the third time.
Elizabeth Sobinoff has already appeared on MAFS Australia twice – first making her debut in season six, where she married Sam Ball, and then returning for season seven and tying the knot with Seb Guilhaus.
While her first appearance on the show was doomed from the moment groom Sam body-shamed her on their big day, Elizabeth seemed to find her happy ending with Seb and the pair were the only couple to stay together from series seven.
However, the pair recently called it quits on their relationship and speculation began mounting that Elizabeth could be eyeing up another stint on MAFS.
Addressing the rumours, though, Elizabeth insisted it’s not a case of third time lucky and pointed out why the speculation is, well, just that – speculation.
She shared a statement on Instagram that read: ‘I’m not returning for another season of Aussie MAFS, so p**s off.’
Elizabeth explained that MAFS is filmed prior to each series being shown on TV and that she’s only just recently split with Seb, so couldn’t have been a part of the next season.
‘The show is filmed prior to airing. Use your brains, I was living with my partner at the time, learning and growing,’ the statement continued. ‘Sorry if that was a bit feisty, I’m kind of, you know, going through something. Don’t believe the s**t you read.’
Elizabeth was responding to reports teasing she’d be making a comeback to MAFS for the third time, with a source previously telling New Idea: ‘It’s no secret Lizzie is very close to the show’s production team and Nine.
‘She’s very friendly with those who matter and she knows she could be back in heartbeat.’
Fans were reportedly left furious over the news, reacting to the rumours on a Facebook thread.
‘Give it a rest! Move on,’ commented one fan, while another posted: ‘When will she learn? She’s been through enough.’
Others called the comeback claims ’embarrassing’, while another argued: ‘It kind of defeats the purpose of the show, don’t you think? Married At FIRST Sight.’
Elizabeth, meanwhile, confirmed that fans will see her in the reunion special of season seven that was recorded in December and soon to air in Australia.
Season seven had aired in Australia last year, with Elizabeth and Seb staying together after the show and continuing their relationship.
They confirmed their break up a week ago, with Elizabeth writing at the time: ‘We have mutually decided to end our relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend. We want to thank everyone for the endless support we have received on our platforms.
‘Please be kind and respectful. We are aware you have followed parts of our journey, but please remember we are real people, and we are both navigating our way through this time to the best of our abilities.’
She continued: ‘Naturally we are both aware there will be countless rumours and so on. Again, we are both navigating our way through this time so please be respectful and we won’t be allowing comments on this post. It is still fresh for us both, we just know there has been some curiosity as we have shared parts of our relationship online and we met on national television.
‘We are both respectful of each other and are still involved in each other’s lives. We both have cherished each other and have grown together. We would like to send love and well wishes to all.’
In the UK, season six of MAFS Australia – which first aired down under in 2019 – is currently playing out on E4.
It follows Elizabeth’s marriage to Sam, which fails to take off and ultimately breaks down when he sets his sights on fellow castmember Ines Basic.
Married At First Sight Australia: Season 6 continues Tuesday at 7.30pm on E4 and is available to watch via catch up on All 4.
