Joe Biden’s presidency was ushered in with a pop bonanza thanks to the likes of Katy Perry, John Legend and Demi Lovato performing at the official inauguration concert last night.

After being sworn in as the 46th president of the United States, Mr Biden ended the day with a televised concert with a bevy of pop stars performing from various locations due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Dark Horse singer Katy blew viewers away with a slightly pared back performance of her 2010 single Fireworks in front of the Lincoln Memorial, and ended the set with an explosion of fireworks which lit up the sky in the backdrop.

Her fiance Orlando Bloom was her biggest cheerleader as he filmed the end of the performance nearby and ran up to give her a kiss while exclaiming: ‘That was amazing.’

Demi, 28, got President Biden and his family on their feet in the White House as she delivered a rendition of the upbeat Lovely Day originally sung by Bill Withers.

Ordinary People singer John, 43, also took it back with a classic from Nina Simone, Feeling Good, which he also performed outside the Lincoln Memorial.

Bruce Springsteen opened the concert by performing his 1999 hit Land of Hope and Dreams, which coincidentally played after Barack Obama ended his presidency in 2017.

Foo Fighters delivered a performance of their 2003 single Times Like These, following a message from frontman Dave Grohl, who spoke about education and First Lady Jill Biden’s career as a school teacher.

Lin-Manuel Miranda slowed down the pace slightly by reciting Seamus Heany’s poem The Cure At Troy, with lines including: ‘Once in a lifetime / The longed for tidal wave / Of justice can rise up / And hope and history rhyme,’ while Justin Timberlake also performed.

The 90-minute show was hosted by Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks and featured speeches from President Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris.

Earlier in the day, Lady Gaga sang the national anthem at the inauguration swearing in, while Jennifer Lopez and Garth Brooks also performed.
