Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) in EastEnders has created a toxic environment when it comes to her family life. She has been controlling her children and ensuring she makes it known to them that she is the one in charge, and so far none of the Panesar siblings have successfully managed confront their mother about her behaviour without facing consequences afterwards.
Suki’s daughter Ash (Gurlaine Kaur Garcha) has had arguments with her mother on more than one occasion, but as Gurlaine recently revealed, Ash could turn out to be as ruthless as Suki, as her character is more like her mother than she cares to admit:
‘I think that deep down there are elements of Ash that are really similar to Suki and I hope we get to see that more. It would be great to show people that Ash really is her mother’s daughter, despite Ash trying to run away and hide from it. I think that Kheerat and Vinny are too, they all have elements of her.
For Ash you saw it at that party with Vinny when she handles the situation like her mum would. I don’t think Suki would have dealt with that any differently! That was a moment where you definitely see Ash really embodying her mum.’
Gurlaine continued, adding how the upcoming argument Ash has with Suki over already knowing Habiba (Rhukku Nahar) is pregnant with Jags’ (Amar Adatia) baby allows us to see Ash’s dark side once more:
‘I think Ash really loses herself in the moment, she has never stood up to her mum in that way before and she gets lost in it. Things get pretty bad between the two of them but Suki certainly brings her daughter back down to earth and Ash is reminded of her mum’s control.
The child in Ash is bought out – she’s got to do what Suki says, as much as she tries to be strong, Suki’s the one in control after all!’
