Do you have a spare £54,000 in the bank?

That’s the guide price of a grade-II listed Victorian railway signal box, which will soon be on sale at auction.

Located at Torre station in Devon, the three-floor property dates back to when the Great Western Railway station opened.

Experts believe the unique spot could be easily renovated into an interesting holiday home – and the property has planning permission for such a project.

The proposed plans suggest there’s room for a ground floor living area, a first floor bedroom with an en-suite, an open plan dining room and a kitchen on the third floor.

The top floor of the property is even equipped with rows of signal levers and handles, as well as a signalman’s armchair. But, sadly, these do not function.

Additional features include the cast iron coal stove, wood panelling, high ceilings and the panoramic windows.

The property is within walking distance of Torquay’s beach and attractions.

Sean Roper, of Paul Fosh Auctions, said: ‘We’ve had a great deal of interest from rail enthusiasts and also from local people for the former signal box.

‘What makes this of particular interest is that the railway line to the English Riviera at Torquay is still very much in use both by tourists, commuters and by school children.

‘We’ve built up a fair reputation for having individual, quirky lots at our auctions among the more traditional properties and this is most certainly among the most unusual we’ve offered over the years.’

For anyone looking to place a bid, the online auction will start at 12pm on 2 February and end at 5pm on 4 February.
