I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! 2020 runner-up Jordan North has revealed he almost walked off the show before being calmed down by co-host Declan Donnelly.
After the first bug-filled group trial on this year’s series of I’m A Celebrity, Jordan and EastEnders star Shane Richie were voted by the public to take part in Viper Vault, where they were faced with one of Jordan’s worst fears – snakes.
Viewers saw Jordan panic before the challenge began, the radio DJ doubtful of whether he would be able to cope with being confined in a tight space with the slithering creatures.
In the end, Jordan, 30, decided to face his fear head on, finishing the trial with nine stars for camp.
However, the radio DJ has revealed he almost quit the challenge altogether as he had a ‘complete meltdown’, before being stopped by Dec.
‘I’ve not talked about this to anyone, I just had a complete meltdown. And I know what people mean now by sheer panic,’ he said. ‘I delayed it by loads. None of this got shown on TV.
‘I just said, “I cannot do this. And I’m not going to do this. And in fact, I am gonna go. I don’t need to do this”.
‘I nearly said, “I’m just not going to do the trial”. I nearly walked.’
Jordan told The Sun on Sunday that he ‘delayed’ the trial by a significant amount of time, in a moment that wasn’t shown on the programme.
While crying about the terrifying Viper Vault, Jordan said he found it difficult to breathe, with Dec close at hand to help keep him calm.
When he eventually felt calm enough to begin, Jordan admitted that he initially planned on only staying in the vault for two minutes before shouting ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’
He said that he thinks Dec and Ant McPartlin ‘wanted to put an arm around my shoulders’, adding that it ‘definitely helps’ when the presenting duo talk to the contestants during trials.
Jordan said that he didn’t believe the trials would be ‘as bad’ as they were, although they ‘got worse’ as the competition went on.
He also addressed those who believe he was faking his fear during the launch episode, when he was sick on the side of a cliff before doing an abseil.
‘Genuinely, what you see is what you get. There was no playing up to cameras,’ the BBC Radio 1 presenter affirmed.
Jordan confessed that when he agreed to go on I’m A Celeb, his plan was to ‘keep my head down’ and maybe do ‘one or two trials’.
However, it was clearly a blessing in disguise that he was put forward for so many challenges, as he conquered his fears and evolved beyond his wildest expectations throughout the series.
I’m A Celebrity 2020 is available to watch on demand on ITV Player.
