Aside from Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) being deeply affected by Geoff’s (Ian Bartholomew) abuse in Coronation Street, there’s another person who is also beginning to feel the impact of the horrific ordeal – Yasmeen’s granddaughter Alya (Sair Khan).
For months Alya has defended Yasmeen, protecting her at all costs from Geoff and working desperately hard to find enough evidence to prove Geoff is an abuser so her gran can be free from prison.
As Yasmeen’s trial concludes tonight, there’s even more trouble on the way for the Nazirs, as a rooftop stand off ensues between Geoff and Alya.
Sair Khan recently spoke to Metro.co.uk, and told us all about the deadly showdown and how she felt filming it:
‘The desperation of Geoff was reeking out of him – the audience will smell it. Ian was just sensational in that scene and it was exciting to play. This is what we live for – scenes like this. At the end of a tumultuous two years, I was glad they had one final face off.’
A dramatic rooftop scene, social distancing and filming in the middle of the night must’ve been difficult for Sair…or was it?
‘I am the next action woman! I would have been hanging off that roof all week given the opportunity! When I first started, I was in a coach crash, but this roof was something else. We had a plank, but I refused to use it – I wanted it to be authentic. I am geeking out, but it was so much fun!’
