‘Tis the season to be jolly — that is, unless you live in Walford, like the mainstays of EastEnders.

Yes, the BBC One soap is notoriously unmissable during the festive season, as chaos, terror and devastation tends to ensue, and you can be rest assured that this year will be no different.

With shock revelations, romance discoveries and huge returns aplenty, it’s shaping up to one festive season that Albert Square’s finest will never forget.

Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) was left for dead, but his nightmare is far from over, as he continues to be haunted by his attacker. Meanwhile, Lucas Johnson (Don Gilet) returns to Walford, but will he murder once more?

If you fancy knowing what’s to come this Christmas — and let’s be honest, why wouldn’t you? — then fear not, as we’ve got you covered.

It’s going to be one you’re not going to want to miss, that’s for sure!

‘Who attacked Ian?’

Ian Beale is living in fear following recent events. He knows full well that someone wants him dead, but the question remains: who can he trust? And just who is out for his blood?

A loud bang goes off at The Queen Vic, and Kathy (Gillian Taylforth) and Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) fear the worst. They rush over to rescue Ian, and find him cowering under the table.

What was the bang?

Kathy wants her whole family together for Christmas. Ben (Max Bowden), Peter (Dayle Hudson) and Bobby (Clay Milner Russell) meet Ian at The Vic to offer olive branches — for Kathy’s sake, that is — but suspicions soon rise and interests are piqued when they question Ian about what actually happened on the night he was left for dead.

Another vicious incident at home soon terrifies Ian, and he seemingly comes to realise that he’s not safe in his own home.

On Christmas Eve, Ian finally realises how horrible he has been to all those around him, and therefore he decides that the only way to stop whoever it is that’s trying to kill him is to repent for his sins.

He speaks to Bobby and Peter first, and begs them to hear him out.

However, the night before Christmas, as people gather for a special festive celebration, Walford is left in shock once again, and Ian is left terrified.

One resident wants only one thing for Christmas: Ian Beale gone. And the truth finally comes to light.

Ian storms over to Ben’s, and accuses him of trying to kill him. The police soon turn up and make an arrest, but just who is carted away in handcuffs?

Ian is later consumed with fear, as someone else is present at the Vic, and — as Christmas Day comes to an end — one resident makes a lethal move.

Has Ian seen his last Christmas?

With the Christmas community event approaching, Honey Mitchell (Emma Barton) is stressed, and matters are complicated further when she discovers that the fridge is broken!

Desperate to impress Honey, Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) swoops into action and ultimately saves the day with a team of caterers — just in the nick of time.

The festivities finally commence, and everyone is giddy with excitement.

However, the success of the event results in one thing leading to another, and Honey and Jay ultimately share a kiss — just as Billy (Perry Fenwick) walks in!

Billy is speechless, and — as Jay attempts to explain what happened — he storms out.

Max Branning (Jake Wood) is determined to start a new life with Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), and therefore he makes her an offer.

The question is: just what does this offer entail?

That remains to be seen, but Linda tries to explain to Mick (Danny Dyer) how she’s been feeling. Mick, however, doesn’t respond. Desperate to get through to him, she finds a bottle of whiskey to taunt him with. Linda is desperate for him to fight for her, but will he do so?

The following week, Max puts pressure on Linda, and things start to become very real.

On New Year’s Eve, Linda plans ahead for her future, but is Mick a part of it?

As the New Year arrives, she seals her fate — and learns some shocking truths along the way.

Mick speaks to Katy (Simone Lahbib), but she once again pins the blame for everything on Linda. As the New Year arrives, things are not well in the Carter household. Mick finds himself struggling to cope with the enormity of the situation, and as he battles with past demons, he begins to crumble.

Later, he prepares to confront his deepest fears and face them head on. However, when the moment arrives, will he be able to go through with it?

Denise Fox (Diane Parish) is left in shock as she comes face-to-face with Lucas on Christmas Day.

Lies and deceit are exposed in the process, and Denise is taken aback to discover that the serial killer has returned with daughter Chelsea (Zaraah Abrahams) in tow!

The question is: what are they doing?

What’s more, why are they together?

Chelsea is taken aback to see her mum in the company of little Raymond Dawkins.

What happens next remains to be seen, but Denise later returns home, and it’s evident that she’s been rattled by her showdown with Lucas.

She explains what has happened — just as Chelsea arrives at door.

Denise takes advantage of such an opportunity to reiterate just how dangerous Lucas is, but as they discuss matters, they fail to realise that Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker) has a disappeared.

Protective of Denise, Patrick wants to track down Lucas, but will he succeed?

On Christmas Day, Stacey Fowler (Lacey Turner) receives a present from Martin, and she’s left in shock when she realises what he got her.

Later that night, she leaves the Vic with her former hubby, and encouraged by his thoughtful gift, she decides to take a chance on him, and therefore kisses him.

How will Martin react?

Will he kiss her back?

Martin is riddled with guilt, as he spends Christmas with Stacey, but Ruby insists that she’s fine — that is, until she drops a bombshell of her own.

The former market trader opens up to Stacey about recent events, and later tells Ruby that he wishes they could be friends with Stacey, as she understands him.

Ruby is fuming over such a thing, but she hides it well.

The nightclub owner then warns Stacey to stay out of her marriage, but Kush soon puts his foot in it by letting her know that Stacey wants Martin back.

In spite of her having clarified that she left him alive following their showdown in No. 45 Albert Square, Tina is seemingly a key suspect in Ian’s attack.

She’s worried, but Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) is quick to assure her that Gray (Toby-Alexander Smith) will clear her name.

However, the police soon arrive at Gray’s, and reveal that they need to account for Tina’s movements, and they have more questions about Ian’s attack. Tina is terrified as she is taken down to the station.

The following week, Gray informs Tina that the witness who saw her following Ian into The Vic checks out, but he discourages her from heading to the station to clear her name.
