We’re all looking to save the pennies at the moment – so any advice on how to do exactly that is much appreciated.
An Australian woman on TikTok has shared a creative trick she’s used to save almost £5,000 – all you’ll need is a coin jar, a piece of paper, some sticky labels, a board marker and a determined attitude.
Sharing a video on the platform, Becky Turoczi shows how she writes down the numbers one to 100 on the piece of paper and attaches it to her jar with sellotape.
In the video, Becky can be seen popping a £50 note in the jar and then placing a star sticker over the number 50 on the piece of paper.
The challenge encourages savers to choose a number on the paper and put in the respective amount of money in the jar, before placing a sticker over it – to cross it off the list.
The idea is that by the time you reach the last number, you should have saved £5,050.
Becky stresses that there’s no time limit on when to add the money, but she does suggest being consistent – like once a week – so money can be saved faster.
And it’s also a great way to discipline yourself to save money for future plans.
Essentially, it’s very similar to the 2020 envelope challenge which involves putting money in numbered envelopes twice a week for 25 consecutive weeks.
Of course, there are other ways to be thrifty.
One mum revealed a shopping hack that cuts her weekly bill in half, while another shared her meal plan which feeds her family for a week for under £15.
Happy saving!
