Can you help Boris the pig find a home in time for Christmas?

Boris is a Gloucestershire Old Spot pig who was rescued in East Anglia back in 2018, and has been waiting to find a forever home since then.

He was taken to a private boarding yard for 713 days while the charity tried to find a space for him in an animal centre, and now, finally, he’s settled in at West Hatch Animal Centre in Somerset.

That means he can now properly begin his search for a permanent home – preferably with some other pigs to hang out with.

An RSPCA spokesperson said: ‘We only have a limited number of centres with space to take care of farm animals like Boris so we often use private boarders to help take care of them while we wait for a space to become available.

‘Boris made quite an impression on his carers and they were very sad to see him go, but really pleased that he was off to find a loving new home.’

It took seven hours to transfer the 270kg Gloucestershire Old Spot across the country to the Somerset-based centre.

Bel Deering, West Hatch Manager said: ‘Boris is a lovely, gentle boy who enjoyed spending time with his pony pals in boarding.

‘He’s a real character and really deserves a forever home where he’ll make a wonderful companion.’

Some things to know before you start making space for Boris.

Pigs are very intelligent, social animals, and tend to be happier with other pigs – so a home with a whole drove would be preferred.

Boris is also no mini pig, as he weighs in at 270kg. If you’re having visions of a cute little porker running around the house, stop.

And finally, Boris absolutely loves pumpkins. He received a delivery of leftover pumpkins at Halloween and was overjoyed – so if you can provide him with all the gourds his heart desires, Boris will be one happy pig.
