Months after their historic win on season 2 of Love Island USA, Justine Ndiba and Caleb Corprew are still on cloud nine.
The pair’s relationship not only helped them win the hearts of fans across America, but they’ve since become favorites of Love Island viewers all over the world.
As the first black couple to win the dating series, the couple were delighted to see everyone celebrating the fact black love triumphed on a mainstream show.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Justine explained: ‘When we got out and discovered we’d made history with our win, we loved how much people were celebrating that. It wasn’t an expectation we ever had going into it, I was just looking to connect with somebody and find love.
‘This reaction has been so special and we’re flatted to carry that title because we do want to be a good example for others. But we are also just being ourselves and working on our relationship.’
Caleb added: ‘I think people loved that fact our connection is a reflection of something that’s realistic and attainable. I guess it must have been refreshing to see us being normal people. They could see that “okay, love can also look like this”. That’s probably the coolest part for me.’
However, the smitten couple aren’t letting their historic win affect the speed of their relationship.
Caleb explained: ‘We’re definitely still just taking it day by day but we’re doing good. We’re working really hard towards the keeping the communication going and making plans to see each other, which is really good. We’re planning all these fun trips back and forth for a while and we’ve got some great trips in the book.’
Justine joked: ‘Every single day I try to convince Caleb to move to East Coast. We’re still trying to figure that out but we will probably be based in LA together. I’ll stay in the East Coast for a while but the plan for me is either moved there eventually, or slowly but surely convinced Caleb to come out here.’
Right now, the king and queen of the villa are excited for what the New Year holds as they continue to develop their romance in the real world.
Caleb explained: ‘We’re having an ongoing conversation on the best ways to foster and nurture our relationship in tandem with supporting ourselves or pursuing our dreams.
‘Its unexplored waters but it’s exciting. We’re open to opportunities and constantly brainstorming but we both agree that the key thing is to just make sure we’re spending as much time together as we can. We’ll see what the future holds.’
‘We’ve had that conversation about trying to find a balance between working on our relationship and creating content to share with our fans,’ Justine added. ‘The key thing is we’re on the same page right now as far as just focusing on building what we have. And then I think the rest will come.’
Love Island USA is available to stream on ITV Hub.
