I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! contestant Giovanna Fletcher was banned from taking cycling shorts into the jungle, according to her good friend Emma Willis.

The podcaster is one of the 10 celebrities on the line-up for this year’s series, and reportedly asked bosses if she could take the item of clothing into camp as her luxury item – but they refused.

The Voice presenter initially Emma pitched the idea to Giovanna of taking in some Lycra to keep creepy crawlies at bay and told Metro.co.uk of their conversation.

‘I went, “you have to take cycling shorts, like long, tight, cycling shorts.” And she was like, “what why would you do that?”,’ Emma recalled.

‘And I said, “because then bugs aren’t going to crawl up the places you don’t want crawling up”. And she went, “oh my God I hadn’t thought about that. I’m going to take cycling shorts!”‘

Emma continued: ‘No one wants a cockroach up the butt or any other orifice. But she wasn’t allowed to.’

Explaining why Giovanna wasn’t allowed to take the cycling shorts, Emma said she believed it was because campmates are only allowed to wear the clothes the show provides.

Giovanna has been training for the eating challenges for years and Emma is rooting for her to come out of the series as the next Queen of the Jungle.

‘If she doesn’t walk out the winner I’ll be very surprised,’ she confessed. ‘I’ll be voting.

‘She’s pretty clued up and she’s a huge fan of the show. Doug [Poynter] has been in it and won it, Matt [Willis] has been in it and won it.’

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! begins on Sunday at 9pm on ITV.
