Ed Balls has joked he won Strictly Come Dancing ‘by a lot’ as he mocked Donald Trump’s crushing US Election defeat.
Joe Biden was named President-elect of the United States after bagging the required 270 electoral college votes needed to definitively win the contest on Saturday.
Before the race were called, Trump tweeted: ‘I WON THIS ELECTION, BY A LOT!’
In turn, Ed wrote: ‘I WON STRICTLY, BY A LOT!’
Ed appeared in the 14th series of Strictly in 2016 and was partnered with professional dancer Katya Jones.
The former Labour Party politician was the ninth celebrity to be eliminated from the competition, landing him in sixth place overall.
The series was won by BBC Sport presenter Ore Oduba and his partner Joanne Clifton, with Louise Redknapp and Kevin Clifton named runners-up.
Biden will be inaugurated as the 46th president of the United States in January, after Pennsylvania gave him 20 votes – pushing him over the line.
Multiple news agencies, including CNN, New York Times and BBC called the result, with some states still left to declare a final count.
Biden’s win means Kamala Harris made history as she was named the Vice President – the highest-ranking female politician in the history of the United States.
She is also the highest ranking African American and Indian American ever to hold political office in America.
Celebrities across the globe have been reacting to the news, including Lizzo, who let her tears flow in an emotional video shared on Instagram.
Meanwhile, Chrissy Teigen and John Legend drove through West Hollywood to celebrate on the streets.
