Callum ‘Halfway’ Highway (Tony Clay) has been doing everything in his power to secure evidence on Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) in EastEnders.
The young copper found himself torn between love and duty when DI Thompson (Phillip Wright) discovered that his boyfriend Ben (Max Bowden) was none other than Phil’s son.
Desperate to put Phil behind bars and further his career in the process, Thompson blackmailed Callum — confirming that he’d let Ben off the hook over the warehouse heist if he secured evidence to put Phil away.
Callum has successfully gained Phil’s trust, but he’s felt incredibly guilty about betraying his boyfriend and the Mitchell clan in such a fashion.
Yes, Ben hasn’t got a clue what his beau has been up to.
Speaking about Callum’s dilemma, actor Max Bowden — who portrays Ben — said: ‘Well it’s difficult because, the two and fro is that one them is always lying to each other so at this stage Callum is ultimately trying to protect Ben.’
But how would Ben react if he learned thetruth?
‘It’s because of Ben’s stupid mistakes that Callum is in this position, so really Ben has got himself to blame, said Max, ‘But I think the underlying subtext of this is that it will be very difficult for Ben to comprehend if it ever comes out.
‘The trouble is Callum is too far in now, he’s living in the house, we are currently trying to see this relationship with Thompson to try and get Phil.
‘Ben has always been in a dichotomy of Callum or Phil, and this situation could potentially answer that question for him.’
