Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) and Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) have joined forces for a money-making job in EastEnders, but will things go according to plan?
Desperate for some cash after Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) raised the rent once more, Kat sought Phil’s help in pulling off a heist.
Phil declined her offer, but he later reconsidered, and thus plans to pull off a robbery were put in place.
Next week, Kat is feeling rather nervous about the whole thing, and with tensions escalating between she and Shirley Carter (Linda Henry), she declares that the job is off.
That is, until Ben (Max Bowden) convinces her to go through with her plan to steal classic cars from the firm she’s working at.
Speaking about what’s to come, actor Max Bowden — who portrays Ben — said: ‘Ben has been sceptical about getting back into too much crime.
‘I think Kat has never been a trustworthy person anyway, as far as the Mitchell’s are concerned and also they have had history lately with Kat and Stacey being involved with hurting Phil, something that carried on for a while, with Stacey just coming back to the Square. I definitely think there is a bit of scepticism there.
‘I think for Ben it’s not so much how desperate Kat is for the cash, it’s how much Ben and Phil love a pound. Any opportunity for something that is kind of easy work wise to make a few quid is something that they generally jump at.
‘I think Ben is just jumping on the fact that his general place of work at the moment is cars and the selling of classic cars, and he has been involved for quite a while now, so when he sees an opportunity arise he has to take it.’
While Ben successfully talks Kat round, he’s later left unimpressed when she reveals that the getaway driver is none other than Kush Kazemi (Davood Ghadami).
‘I think Ben thinks Kush is quite an amateur when it comes to these sorts of crimes. He’s never really been involved in the Mitchell criminal empire, and he is someone that Ben isn’t particularly aware of.
‘A lot of their confrontation stems from the Martin feud, so they are precocious of Kush being involved because he is an amateur and he isn’t up to the job.’
But will the job go as planned? What’s more, what does Shirley’s involvement mean for Ben?
Max said: ‘We will have to wait and see; Ben and Shirley have a unique relationship because of their history. Underlining everything, Ben and Shirley care a lot for each other.
‘It’s a relationship me and Linda Henry find quite interesting. I think in that dynamic there is a trust when it comes to Shirley, whereas the other figures surrounding the job, the trust is slightly lacking.’
