Dave Chappelle brands Trump ‘racist, hilarious, son of a bit*h’ in Saturday Night Live opening monologue

Dave Chappelle took aim at Donald Trump as he returned to host Saturday Night Live hours after it was announced Joe Biden had won the US Election.

The comedian poked fun at the former Celebrity Apprentice host losing the presidency and catching coronavirus as he took to the stage with his trademark cigarette in hand.

‘I know people don’t like him but I thought he was at least an optimist,’ Chappelle joked. ‘I am not as optimistic as he was. I look at it like there are bad people on both sides.’

‘He called the coronavirus the Klung Flu,’ he continued. ‘I said, you racist, hilarious son of a bit*h, I’m supposed to say it not you. It’s wrong when you say it.’

Chappelle added: ‘Donald Trump is a wild guy, he was on a press conference, tried to guess the cure of the coronavirus in front of the whole world. That’s a wild thing to do.’

Talking about the moment when Trump caught coronavirus, Chappelle said: ‘Wasn’t that something? When he went out and got coronavirus they talked about it on the news – but you know what they didn’t say? That it was hilarious.

‘It was hilarious. When Trump got coronavirus it was like when Freddie Mercury got aids. Nobody was like, “Well how did he get it?” This guy was running around like the outbreak monkey.’

Elsewhere in his monologue, Chappelle touched upon people not wearing their coronavirus face masks.

‘I don’t know why poor white people don’t like wearing masks,’ he commented. ‘What is the problem? You wear masks to the Klan rally, wear them to WalMart too.’

Viewers praised Chappelle’s opening speech with some branding it the best in the show’s history.

‘Dave Chappelle might have delivered the best opening monologue in SNL history!!!’ one penned.

‘Dave Chappelle’s opening #SNL monologue was funny, challenging, and absolutely vital. Look it up later if you didn’t see it live. A must-watch.’

Saturday Night Live airs on NBC in the US.
