Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) was always going to use the trial of Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) to twist the knife and paint her as something she is not – but that doesn’t make it any easier to stomach in Coronation Street.
As a nervous Yasmeen prepares for her trial, Geoff enters the courtroom, determined to pull his wife to pieces and declare that she wanted to kill him.
As Geoff answers questions to prosecutors, he argues that Yasmeen was constantly drunk and violent towards him and Yasmeen sees the monster in his true light as he spins disgusting lies about her.
Discussing the attack, Geoff argues that Yasmeen lunged at him and was terrifying – when viewers all know that he was the one terrorising her.
Imran Habeeb (Charlie de Melo) is able to challenge Geoff and plays the footage of him verbally assaulting Yasmeen that was found on his laptop – and there’s little he can say as a jury watches with discomfort.
Geoff is also forced to concede that his first wife Elaine Jones (Paula Wilcox) is still alive and may be the father of his son Tim (Joe Duttine).
Yasmeen then gets a chance to defiantly stand up to the man who controlled her life for so long and as she bravely declares to the court that she was a victim of coercive control and abuse, will Geoff be able to turn the tide back against her?
Or will he finally pay the price?
