Riviera season 3 kicks off with a one-year time jump which sees Julia Stiles’ character Georgina reinventing herself as a rising star in international art restitution.
The brand new series begins with Georgina attempting to restart her life by ditching her surname Clios and using her maiden name once more, and keeping her head low by lecturing at a university.
Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk about why it was necessary to fast-forward 12 months to start this new chapter, Julia revealed it’s all to do with Georgina trying to cut ties with her past.
‘At the beginning of this season, Georgina has really tried to distance herself from her past and start afresh,’ she told us. ‘I think the passage of time is important so Georgina could get away from the Clios baggage.
‘If we go back to season 1, she was kind of always in the shadow of her husband, and while she might have benefited from the last name Clios, she wants to succeed without it.’
But for Georgina, simply changing her name isn’t enough to stop her from returning to her dramatic criminal past – and soon enough she’s back in the throws of St Tropez thanks to a proposal from new man on the block Gabriel Hirsch (Rupert Graves).
Georgina and Gabriel share a passion for justice, a keen sense of adventure, and an intoxicatingly notorious reputation, and together they scour the world for stolen works of art.
‘They go back to St Tropez because of this mystery they get wrapped up in,’ Julia said.
‘St Tropez is a very influencer town where all the wealthy families know each other, so she’s right back stumbling in it and can’t really get beyond her past as quickly as she’d like to.
‘There’s even a scene in season 3 when Gabriel and Georgina are entering a beach club and the temptation is for her to use the surname Clios to break in and cut the line.’
Sky original Riviera series 3 is available to stream on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.
