Country singer Morgan Wallen has been axed from this weekend’s Saturday Night Live line-up after being filmed partying without a face mask.

The 27-year-old rising star was caught in TikTok videos partying at a bar in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on Saturday while maskless and kissing women.

It happened just days before he was due to grace the SNL stage in New York City on October 10 as a performer, with comedian Bill Burr as host.

Morgan addressed the videos on Wednesday night and apologised for his behaviour in an Instagram video.

‘It’s a tough video for me to make but a necessary one,’ Morgan began.

He continued: ‘I respect the show’s decision because I know I put them in jeopardy and I take ownership for this. I’d like to apologise to SNL, to my fans, to my team for bringing me these opportunities and I let them down.

‘I think I lost myself a little bit. I tried to find joy in the wrong places and, I don’t know, it’s left me with less joy, so I’m going to try to work on that.’

The singer added: ‘I’m going to take a step back from the spotlight for a little while and go work on myself. I wish I could have made country music and my fans proud this Saturday, but I respect the decision once again.’

Morgan also revealed that Saturday Night Live executive producer Lorne Michael had given him a ‘lot of encouragement’ and had hinted he could still make his debut on the long-running sketch show at a later date.

He finished the apology: ‘And lastly, I know that I am taking some heat, a lot of heat, but I just wanted to let you all know that your messages of encouragement haven’t gone unnoticed either.

‘It may be a second before you hear from me for a while, but I’m gonna go work on me and I appreciate y’all respecting that and I’ll talk to you soon. Love you!’

Last week, Morgan shared his excitement about performing on SNL for the first time and tweeted: ‘Doesn’t get much bigger than this when it comes to television. Thank you @nbcsnl for having a good ole boy and his friends on to sing our stories.’

Morgan was in Alabama for the state’s football game against Texas A&M last weekend.

It’s not yet known who will replace Morgan this weekend.
