Gary Windass (Mikey North) can smell a dodgy deal from a mile away in Coronation Street given that he’s orchestrated plenty of them himself, and thus his suspicions are raised by Ray Crosby’s (Mark Frost) behaviour.
Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) desperately wants to buy the barbers from Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls), but she’s horrified when she finds a huge credit card bill, and accuses Gary of having hidden it from her.
With money worries aplenty, the gangster informs Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine) that he’s going to have to cut her hours, but Ray overhears this conversation.
He confronts Gary, and offers him a business proposition. Yes, the hotelier reveals his desire to purchase the factory, offering Gary £150,000.
Gary turns him down, confirming that the factory isn’t for sale, but Maria implores him to reconsider, as she desperately wants to buy the barbers.
Later, Gary is shocked when he receives a letter which reports an increase in the rent on the furniture shop, and Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) is forced to reveal that he sold the premises to Ray.
The former loan shark later surveys David Platt’s (Jack P Shepherd) sinkhole and offers to put him in touch with a specialist company.
However, David lets slip about how Ray had previously offered to buy the house, and Gary’s interest is piqued.
After giving it some more thought, Gary confronts Ray and tells him to double his offer on the factory, and they’ve got a deal.
Will Gary work out what Ray is up to?
The hotelier has bought quite a few properties on the eponymous street, but what he’s planning on doing with them remains to be seen.
