There are many things in this world that are wonderful on their own, but even better covered in batter and deep fried.
A Mars Bar, for example, is obviously incredible alone.
But when you stick it in a fryer, it becomes something truly magical.
The same goes for fish, sausages, and well, most things, really – even Jaffa Cakes, Brussels sprouts, and Quality Street sweets.
So yes, we’re totally on board with battered pickled onion, the new treat being served up at Codfather fish and chips in Cambuslang, Glasgow.
Let us repeat: these are pickled onions that have been battered and deep fried.
Chippy owner Amandeep Singh, 38, was on the hunt for something new to batter and happened upon the pickled onions he usually sold as a side.
He only started the deep-fried delicacy this week, but says he has already been inundated with requests to try them.
The dad of four has been running the takeaway for 16 years and said he has never seen anyone selling deep fried pickled onions.
He’s now selling his creation for 50p an onion or £2 for five.
Amandeep said: ‘I’ve never seen it done before.
‘I’ve been working a long time in chippies and just wanted to be different and thought I’d try putting a pickled onion in batter.
‘When it’s quiet you think up different things.
‘We just started selling them yesterday. They’re not on the menu yet but the customers like them already.
‘People have been messaging saying they’re really tasty.
‘I like them myself, and all the staff really like them.
‘The batter’s nice and crispy and you still get a crunch with the onion.’
Amandeep posted the treat on the shop’s Facebook page, writing: ‘Fancy trying something a little bit different?
‘Love pickles and love batter why not come try them together?’
The post has been shared nearly 2,000 times and received 4,500 comments.
