The Witcher has confirmed the casting replacement of Thue Ersted Rasmussen’s Eskel, for the upcoming second season.
Deadline recently revealed that Basil Eidenbenz would be taking on the role as the cast and crew returns to filming following the coronavirus pandemic.
The Covid-19 outbreak forced Rasmussen to quit the show after bosses had to reschedule the filming.
And while the 27-year-old had already shot some scenes earlier on this year, it’s thought that Eidenbenz will now have to refilm certain parts of the series.
Earlier this week, Rasmussen confirmed that he would not be returning in a statement on Instagram.
‘Sadly, due to the rescheduling because of Covid-19,’ the actor wrote to his followers. ‘I will not be portraying Eskel in The Witcher.’

The star continued: ‘It’s heartbreaking, of course, but I mostly feel happy and grateful for the days I got to spend on set earlier this year.
‘Everyone was extremely engaged and passionate about the project and it was a truly inspiring experience.’
He turned his attention to the fandom, adding: ‘A heartfelt thank you to all the fans who wrote me lovely, encouraging messages. I wish everyone on the show best of luck with the rest of the production.
‘I am sure season two will be absolutely amazing and now I get to watch it as a fanboy instead of as a Witcher.’
Fans were quick to comment where they expressed how sad they were to see him go.
‘This is sad news. But you always meet twice and I’m sure another opportunity will arise in the future. You’re still staying part of the Witcher fam,’ one wrote while another added: ‘Sorry to hear that mate. Big things coming regardless.’
Someone else said: ‘We were so excited to see you play Eskel. So sorry to hear these news. I hope everything is OK and we get to see you soon!’
Production for The Witcher started back up last month, with the hope of the new season dropping onto Netflix mid next year.
The Witcher season two is set to return to Netflix 2021.
