Pretty Little Liars is being eyed up for a reboot just three years after it ended.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is at the helm of the project, which is reportedly being targeted at HBO Max.

The revamped series is said to feature a new story and new characters, so it seems unlikely that Aria, Alison, Emily, Spencer and Hanna will make an appearance.

Pretty Little Liars originally ran for seven seasons from 2010 to 2017 and won fans all over the world as we watched the girls play the ultimate cat and mouse game with the ever-changing A.

The show came to an end back in 2017, with a bumper two-hour finale that finally revealed A.D. to be Spencer’s twin sister, Alex Drake.

Besides the main drama, Pretty Little Liars also had two spin-offs, Pretty Little Liars: Ravenswood and Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists. Both shows lasted just one series.

The programme helped launch the likes of Lucy Hale, Tyler Blackburn, Shay Mitchell and Tyler Blackburn’s careers.

Earlier this year, Lucy, who played Aria Montgomery on the show, disclosed that she is repeatedly asked by fans for more Pretty Little Liars content and dropped the possibility of a film.

‘It’s a good problem to have because so many people associate us with this show and it’s been so amazing for all us and it’s opened up a lot of doors,’ she said.

‘But it’s been fun spreading our wings and trying other things.’

She added: ‘I always get asked, “when are we doing a movie?” People still think we’re making a movie. I think we just need to do it.’
