Mum reveals simple recipe to get her son to eat vegetables every time

Convincing kids that they should eat their vegetables can be tough.

They might be good for them but usually they’d rather have a chocolate bar.

And when that happens, the best thing to do is just to disguise the veg so they think they’re having something else completely.

And one mum says she’s found the solution to her son’s aversion to veg.

The woman, from Australia, shared her recipe on Facebook for simple veggie patties, which she then cooks in an air fryer.

She came up with the idea after a Sunday night of struggling to get the fussy toddler to eat his dinner.

They contain carrot, broccoli and spinach – combined with mashed potato, sweet potato, breadcrumbs and an egg – but could be made with any chopped up veg.

She said: ‘I made veggie patties in my 5.3 litre air fryer from Kmart. I just put them on 180 degrees for 15 minutes and he smashed them down tonight.’

The air fryer uses much less oil than a traditional fryer to make them crisp up without the high fat content.

You can make them ahead of time or if your kids refuse to eat the undisguised vegetables on their plate, you can use the leftovers to whip these up for their next meal.

Although patties aren’t new, other parents said they hadn’t really considered how simple they could be and how much veg they could pack into them.

One said: ‘I’m definitely going to try these, they look delicious.’

Someone else added: ‘Who doesn’t love a good veggie fritter.’

And another mum said she had to take the disguise one step further with her kids.

She explained: ‘Kids are FUNNY. My boys wouldn’t eat rissoles so I told them they were space balls… GONE.’
