In Friends, Ross Geller’s doomed second wedding to British Emily has become one of the most gag-worthy moments in sitcom history.
Emily (played by Helen Baxendale) was cemented as the scorned bride back in 1998 when Ross (David Schwimmer) said the wrong name at the altar – calling her Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) in front of all friends and family.
It was an absolutely gutpunching moment, and naturally marked the beginning of the end of Emily’s time on the show – but even 22 years later, teams of fans are still reaching out to actress Helen as the series continues to thrive.
Speaking to RadioTimes, she revealed: ‘I think that happens every five years or so when Friends moves to a different channel.
‘I think basically everybody has seen it now. It’s so good, and timeless.’
‘Actually I don’t know if it’s timeless, I haven’t seen it for years,’ she then dropped. ‘But it definitely still appeals to younger generations.’
The 50-year-old actress must be one of a handful of people that haven’t been watching it while in lockdown then.
In fact, the series just keeps getting more loved over the years – and it turns out there’s a reason, with its repetitive, easy-to-swallow story actually having soothing qualities for people with anxiety.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk last year, Marc Hekster, Clinical Psychologist at The Summit Clinic explained: ‘Yes, it is soothing to see the same outcome every time and know you can depend on it. This is at the heart of human development.
‘So, when grown-ups are anxious, they can have child-like feelings of fear and worry, and these can be soothed by repetition. Bring on Friends repeats for the 10th time.’

Friends is available now on Netflix in the UK.
