We’re due one last blast of hot weather before the summer ends so make the most of those evenings sitting outside.

And if you haven’t managed to set up some comfy outdoor furniture yet, one couple have a great idea to give you somewhere to relax on a budget.

The Australian pair created a beautiful outdoor sofa out of dog beds and old pallets for less than $78 (£44).

Posting on the Kmart Hacks and Decor Facebook group, Kayla revealed how they did it.

‘My partner and I wanted to get a day bed for our deck but didn’t want to pay $500+ so we came up with the idea to get pallets which we painted (free) and added Kmart dog beds to it!’ she said.

The beds cost $20 each (£10) and although Kmart isn’t available in the UK, you can find similar ones in pet stores here.

Although more expensive at £25, this one from Pets at Home has a similar feel.

To finish the look, the couple added some cushions on the back.

People loved the idea and said that dog beds are perfect because they tend to me durable and waterproof to prevent mucky paw stains.

Kayla said that the bed was now really comfy and one of their favourite places to sit.

Others said they’d tried similar things and had suggestions to make it even better.

One said: ‘I’ve done a similar thing but used an old single bed mattress. I put it inside a Kmart king single doona cover.

‘If you have any issues of the cushions slipping when you’re sitting on it, add Velcro strips to the top of the pallet and the bottom of the cushion!’ another suggested.’
