A woman has been charged with the murder of a 10-year-old boy whose body was found in a west London home.
She was arrested after walking into a police station in the early hours of Sunday to speak to officers. A short while later at around 2.30am, police went to a flat in Cumberland Park, Acton, and found a young boy’s body.
Olga Freeman, 40, will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on Monday. The boy is believed to have been known to Freeman, said police, who are not seeking anyone else in connection with the death.
Formal identification is yet to take place but next of kin have been informed.
One neighbour, who lives in a flat next door to the building, said he heard a ‘childish scream’ in the middle of the night.
Keith Grindrod, 73, told The Sun: ‘It sounded like a little scream next door. It was a childish scream. It was just enough to wake me up.’
He said he was not aware police were at the property until he woke up and looked outside at 6am.
Another neighbour said the boy was ‘quite severely disabled’ and used a wheelchair.
Gillian Fisher, 34, said: ‘I don’t know who the family were but if the little boy is who I think he is, I used to see him being taken to school in his wheelchair in a specially adapted van.
‘It is shocking. It’s devastating but not as devastating as it must be for the person who did this I imagine. It’s just heartbreaking.’
Another neighbour said he was ‘in shock’ over the news.
Reverend Nick Jones, 61, the rector of Acton, who lives in Cumberland Park, said yesterday that the boy’s death was ‘shattering’.
He said: ‘I’m still shaking a bit, it’s hugely upsetting.’
