GCSE students across the country are set to open their results on Thursday, one week after the outcry over this year’s A-level results which saw around 40% of students downgraded.
Like A-Levels, GCSE exams were cancelled this year in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic – and were due to be graded using the same algorithm that calculated A-Level grades – but following a U-turn by the Government the results will now be calculated by teacher assessments.
It’s going to be a tense day for many – but just what time are the grades revealed?
And what should you do if you want to appeal any of your results?
What time are the GCSE results published?
Students can usually collect their GCSE results from their school from 8am in the morning on results day.
However schools may stagger this collection time, or send out results via email instead – so you might want to double check what your school has planned for this.
The Department Of Education has laid out guidelines for schools that do intend to have students collecting their results from the premises.
These include ensuring anyone who has coronavirus symptoms staying off the premises, encouraging regular handwashing and general good hygiene, regular cleaning of services which are touched frequently and minimising contact between students by keeping them in small groups.
Can you appeal your GCSE results?
If you’re not happy with a grade you can ask your school to take another look at the result (referred to as ‘requesting a review’) or you can ask the school to appeal to exam regulator Ofqual on your behalf.
However there is no guarantee of a quick resolution, as Ofqual and the exam boards do not yet know how many appeals they may have to deal with.
Those who are not happy with their grades will have a chance to resit their exams in October.
The National Careers Service is also on hand to help, if you want to get in touch with them you can call 0800 100 900.
