The Crown’s Olivia Colman has revealed how she accidentally dropped the F-bomb when first meeting the Queen.

The 46-year-old plays Queen Elizabeth II in the esteemed Netflix hit, but it appears she was rather taken by surprise when bumping into Her Majesty.

During a glamorous film bash held at Windsor Castle, the star has recalled how she was unexpectedly ushered into a queue with the other guests to meet the 94-year-old.

‘I didn’t think she’d be there and suddenly we all ended up in a big queue,’ the actress explained to the Mirror.

‘I thought somebody was using the rooms for the bash and then suddenly we looked down the corridor and went “oh f.”‘

She pressed: ‘A man in epaulettes was telling us to do, “just a little bow, don’t overdo it.”

‘He sort of shuffled us forward saying, “Your Majesty, then Your Royal Highness, then keep moving because she has hundreds of people to get through.”‘

Olivia will play the Queen for one more series of the royal drama before she is then replaced by Imelda Staunton for the last chapter of the series.

At the time of the announcement, writer Peter Morgan revealed: ‘I’m absolutely thrilled to confirm Imelda Staunton as Her Majesty The Queen for the fifth and final season, taking The Crown into the 21st century.

‘Imelda is an astonishing talent and will be a fantastic successor to Claire Foy and Olivia Colman.

‘At the outset I had imagined The Crown running for six seasons but now that we have begun work on the stories for season five it has become clear to me that this is the perfect time and place to stop.

‘I’m grateful to Netflix and Sony for supporting me in this decision.’

Imelda enthused: ‘I have loved watching The Crown from the very start. As an actor it was a joy to see how both Claire Foy and Olivia Colman brought something special and unique to Peter Morgan’s scripts.

‘I am genuinely honoured to be joining such an exceptional creative team and to be taking The Crown to its conclusion.’

The Crown was supposed to come to an end at season five, however, bosses have since renewed the show for a sixth instalment.

The Crown is available to stream now on Netflix.
