Simon Cowell isn’t letting his broken back slow him down his work, and is reportedly already making plans for his Britain’s Got Talent return.
The TV judge had a five-hour operation just last week to save his back after suffering a nasty fall from an electric scooter in Malibu, California.
As a result, Kelly Clarkson stepped in for him for America’s Got Talent’s live finals last week, but he’s fighting to get back in his judge’s seat back here in the UK.
‘Simon is a total workaholic and even an accident as nasty as his won’t keep him off for long,’ a source told The Sun.
‘Simon has been told to take it easy but he much prefers to be busy. Plus he loves working on BGT, so for him it’s something to look forward to.’
However, it’ll be unlikely that it will be the Autumn live show return – instead focusing on a one-off special focusing on the highlights of the show’s 13-year run that will air at Christmas.
Metro.co.uk has contacted Simon’s reps for comment.
Before the accident, Simon was going to be dialling in via videolink to the BGT performances, as timetable clashes and enforced quarantine for those arriving from the US making a personal appearance almost impossible.
Now with his injuries to consider as well, Simon is working extra hard for his recovery – even surrounding his hospital bed with crystals, apparently, to give him that boost of energy he needs.
Whatever he’s doing, seems to be working, with doctors reportedly saying he’s recovering much faster than predicted despite the severity of his accident, and even walking around.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk last week, his BGT co-star Alesha Dixon said he was doing OK, and told us: ‘I’ve spoken to Lauren [Silverman, Simon’s partner], she’s been keeping me updated.
‘The last time I spoke to her, which was two days ago, she said he was in good spirits. So that was music to our ears.’
‘We love him and we need him there, and we will miss him terribly if he’s not,’ she added. ‘But, last I heard he was doing well.’
Simon has already spoken out with his own statement about the incident, joking that people should ‘read the instructions’ before getting onto the bicycles themselves.
Britain’s Got Talent returns later this year on ITV.
