Former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant Chi Chi DeVayne has urged fans to keep her in their prayers as she returned to the hospital with pneumonia.

The drag queen was first admitted last month for suspected kidney failure and filmed herself as she underwent dialysis, a procedure to remove waste products and excess fluid from the blood when the kidneys stop working properly.

Chi Chi was discharged from hospital days later, however it now seems her recovery has taken a U-turn.

Sharing an update from her hospital bed, Chi Chi said in a video posted on her Instagram story: ‘Hey guys, I’m back in.

‘Keep me in your prayers, I’ll be back soon.’

Earlier this week, Chi Chi revealed that she had been diagnosed with pneumonia,  an infection in one or both lungs.

‘Currently battling pneumonia so I’ll be MIA for a few more days,’ she penned on Instagram.

In 2018, Chi Chi was diagnosed with scleroderma, an uncommon condition that results in hard, thickened areas of skin and sometimes problems with internal organs and blood vessels.

Scleroderma is caused by the immune system attacking the connective tissue under the skin and around internal organs and blood vessels. This causes scarring and thickening of the tissue in these areas.

At the time, Chi Chi wrote in a statement: ‘Lots of people don’t know but I was recently diagnosed with scleroderma. I have been dealing with this over the past eight or nine months but was afraid to expose it to the public in fear of losing out on jobs and facing criticism from friends and fans…

‘but i feel it’s finally time to let the world know what’s really going on with Chi Chi … bottling this up has had me in a state of depression …it has made me hate my appearance .. and also made me stray away from the public eye but I’m no longer hiding and living in a state of fear .. i just ask you all to keep me in your prayers as i battle with this life changing illness.’ (sic)
