Manchester United hold a serious interest in Bournemouth’s David Brooks and are ready to move quickly to sign him as an alternative to Jadon Sancho, according to reports.
The Sancho transfer saga has been dragging on and Borussia Dortmund are standing firm on their £108m price tag, so while the move looked inevitable at one point, it seems less so now.
Dortmund boss Lucien Favre appears confident that he will still have Sancho in his team next season and has challenged him to improve in certain areas in the upcoming campaign.
If the 20-year-old does stay in the Bundesliga then Man Utd are ready to change their focus quickly and their interest in Bournemouth star Brooks is genuine and serious, according to Sport Witness.
A price of £50m had been set for the Wales international when United considered a move for him last year, but that was before Bournemouth were relegated from the Premier League so they may not be able to command such a figure from the Championship.
The 23-year-old is a boyhood Manchester United fan and would be keen on the move, making the huge leap from Premier League relegation to Champions League football.
The former Sheffield United player, who was schooled at Manchester City’s academy, was limited to just nine Premier League appearances last season due to a serious ankle injury.
However, it was the season before in which he really made his name, with seven goals and five assists in his debut season in the top flight for the Cherries.
Brooks would not be the blockbuster signing of Sancho, but he would also not be expecting guaranteed first team football, allowing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to rotate his front three between Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Daniel James and the new arrival.
Sancho remains United’s priority, but a move for Brooks will be swift if they admit defeat.
