Today is August Bank Holiday, with folks across the country getting a well-earned long weekend as summer draws to a close and autumn looms upon the horizon.
And it’s set to be a cold one, with forecasters saying that temperatures on Monday could be well below average for this time of year – as low as 11°C in some parts.
In spite of that people will no doubt appreciate the break, especially given as it’s the last holiday before Christmas, which is still four long months away.
But is Scotland also enjoying a bank holiday today?
Is today a bank holiday in Scotland?
Sadly, if you’re in Scotland today is a normal working day – as the August bank holiday only covers England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
That said, Scotland has already had its own summer bank holiday, which took place at the start of the month instead of the end – this year it was on August 3.
If you’re in Scotland you’ll also get another holiday ahead of the festive season, in the shape of St Andrew’s Day.
That happens on Monday November 30.
When is the next bank holiday?
If you’re in England, Wales or Northern Ireland your next holiday won’t be until Christmas Day, with December 25 falling on a Friday this year.
The good news is that you’ll get an extra day’s break to enjoy this year’s seasonal cheer – since Christmas Day is on a Friday and December 26 falls on a Saturday, we’ll be getting an additional bank holiday on Monday, December 28.
It’ll be here sooner than you think…
