Davina McCall has condemned the ‘mean people’ who commented on her weight loss after her divorce from Matthew Robertson.

The 52-year-old TV star posted selfies on Instagram following the end of her marriage, prompting people to start speaking about her ‘divorce diet.’

She told Women’s Health magazine about how people don’t think about ‘the sadness’ that others feel.

‘It’s called the divorce diet, where you just literally shed (weight),’ the presenter explained.

‘It happens to so many people I know. It was nothing I did. I was just running on adrenaline. Quite a few people (understood) and were like, “I think she’s having a hard time, maybe we should lay off.”‘

She went on to say that there were still a lot of people ‘who didn’t’ lay off.

‘There are some really mean people out there and there are also some very uninformed people who don’t think about the story behind the sadness,’ the former Big Brother presenter continued.

Davina split from her husband of 17 years in November 2017. They have three children together – Holly, Tilly, and Chester.

The star – who has been dating celebrity hairdresser Michael Douglas since last year – previously opened up on how divorce is a ‘traumatic’ experience.

She told You magazine: ‘I will never sit here and go into great details [on her relationship with Michael]. And the reason for that is all down to respect. I have a huge amount of respect for Matthew, I have respect for my children and the same goes for Michael’s family.’

On her split from Matthew, she continued: ‘Going through a divorce is a traumatic experience and it is something that needs to be navigated as carefully as possible.

‘Two years on, we have both grown as people, and we can now co-parent happily and acknowledge that it was the right thing for us to go through, even though it involved absolute emotional turmoil.’

The full interview is in the October issue of Women’s Health, also available as a digital edition.
