Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has revealed 10 teams have expressed an interest in signing him this summer following a string of spectacular performances at the end of last season.
The Argentine joined the Gunners a decade ago but has been loaned out on six occasions and only now is he pressing to be considered as the club’s No.1.
An injury to Bernd Leno against Brighton handed Martinez the opportunity to stake his claim and his form has provided manager Mikel Arteta with a genuine headache.
The knee injury Leno suffered following a challenge with Neal Maupay is not as serious as first feared and the Germany international has already returned to full training.
Martinez has showered Arteta, who marked his first campaign in charge by masterminding Arsenal FA Cup triumph, with praise but hinted he is not willing to play second fiddle come the start of next season.
‘I am in the sights of 10 teams in Europe,’ he told Marca. ‘But I can’t say who those clubs are, because it’s nothing concrete.
‘I still do not have the clear situation with Arsenal, when I have it when I return I will make the best decision for my career.”
‘Arteta is a great coach. He changed the structure of Arsenal & gave us a game plan. He is one of the best modern trainers today.
‘In six months he has won a title, the FA Cup, one of the best cups in England and one of the oldest in history
‘Seeing how we ended up playing the season, great players are going to want to come to this great club.
‘Arteta will want to strengthen the team well. It is the first year that he starts from the beginning as a coach and he will want to start with the best player.’
