WWE took things to sickening new depths tonight as Rey Mysterio lost the highly anticipated Eye From An Eye Match during the Horror Show at Extreme Rules.

The storyline ended almost as it began, with Seth Rollins taking out his opponent’s eye on the corner of the ring steps to bring an intense contest to a twisted and intriguing conclusion.

Despite rumours of a big CGI finish, WWE kept it relatively low key all considered with practical effects, but the Monday Night Messiah was still seen throwing up at ringside after once again sacrificing the Master of the 619.

The two superstars put on a fantastic match despite the unusual stipulation, trying to use kendo sticks, thumbs, chair legs, pliers and more to earn a gruesome victory.

Something like this could only exist in the wacky world of wrestling, and it was a real change for fans to see such an intense version of Mysterio.

From bad language and brutal violence, this was exactly as it should have been.

As fantastic as it was, the bout also left fans realising that with the chemistry these two men shared, they could create true magic in a straight up wrestling match.

The bout started just under an hour into tonight’s broadcast, which had already got off to a fine start.

The opening contest saw Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura win the SmackDown Tag Team Titles in a fantastic Tables Match against The New Day, ending when Kofi Kingston got sent through two tables.

Not to be outdone, Bayley and Nikki Cross went all-out in their Women’s Title match, with the champion retaining after Sasha Banks helped her to victory.

The United States Title match between MVP and Apollo Cews never took place with the commentators revealing the latter still isn’t cleared to compete, so MVP walked out as the unofficial champ.
