Rihanna might be tired of answering questions about her anticipated album R9, but she’s put fans out of their misery anyway by sharing a little update.
The Wild Thoughts singer is yet to drop her elusive ninth studio album, which has been in the works over the past four years. Instead, RiRi’s been focusing on her fashion and beauty empire with brands such as Fenty Beauty, Savage x Fenty and now, Fenty Skin.
Her last album, Anti, was released back in 2016 and fans have been desperate for new music ever since.
Confirming that R9 is still a work-in-progress, Rihanna told Entertainment Tonight: ‘I am always working on music and when I am ready to put it out in the way that I feel fit, it’s gonna come out. And you’re not going to be disappointed when it happens. It’s going to be worth it.’
The pop star added: ‘I’m not just gonna put it out just because people are waiting. It’s taken this long, I’m gonna make it worth it.’
Although she’s been keeping her Navy hanging by a thread for her new album, Rihanna admitted she’s thankful that fans are still following her more than a decade since her debut.
‘I’m 10 years older, I’m 15 years older,’ she explained.
‘I thought that was just a few years ago, now it’s like a decade plus. That is what I think about! But I’m also really grateful to still be here and being able to expand into other ventures. I’m grateful. It’s been fun and I can’t even complain.’
It was recently revealed that Rihanna could be working with Little Mix’s songwriter, Camille Purcell, who has submitted songs for the record and hopes at least one will make the cut.
‘I’ve tried to get on the album, but what do I know?’ she told the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column: ‘What I’ve heard is that it’s so good. So I am praying one of my songs has made it. But who knows?’
She continued: ‘A lot of us artists have tried tirelessly to get songs on this album.
‘I think she gets so many songs and the vibe must change every single day because she is just a queen and her mood changes with the weather – she can do whatever she wants.’
Camille added: ‘A lot of us artists have tried tirelessly to get songs on this album.’
