Marcus Rashford will lose his Manchester United spot to teenager Mason Greenwood because the 18-year-old will become a ‘far better’ finisher than the England star.
That’s according to former Chelsea and Tottenham boss Glenn Hoddle, who believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has found a special player in Greenwood.
The forward netted twice in United’s 5-2 win against Bournemouth on Saturday to take his tally for the season to 15 goals.
Marcus Rashford also found the back of the net, meaning he’s hit 20 goals in all competitions for the first time in his career.
The pair have formed a deadly frontline alongside Anthony Martial since football resumed but Solskjaer remains intent on signing another forward this summer, with Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho a priority.
Hoddle, though, believes it is Greenwood that poses the biggest threat to Rashford’s place in the side and says the teenager will eventually ‘push’ him out.
‘I think he’s a wonderful player now and he’s only going to get better and better,’ Hoddle told Premier League Productions.
‘I’m really impressed with the two feet. I love to see players play with two feet. He’s got a right foot and he’s got a left foot. I think Phil [Neville] is right about playing him right in a wide berth. Will he end up down the middle? Maybe, maybe not.
‘I think he will push Marcus Rashford out of the team. There’s a quote. I think he will end up being a far better clinical finisher and in the end I think you’re going to have to put this lad in first ahead of anyone else.
‘Their front three at the moment is working really well for them, [But] When you look at Martial [and Rashford] they’re all wingers really; they want to play wide.
‘So if they did go and get a centre forward, I think he could play round a real main focal centre forward and have him playing round there. Wow! He could be anything with the two feet.’
Solskjaer has vowed to manage Greenwood’s minutes given his extraordinary rise at the club.
The teenager could start on the bench for Thursday’s clash against Aston Villa but the Norwegian will be reluctant to tamper with a frontline that’s looked so deadly in recent weeks.
Solskjaer named the same starting XI for the third consecutive match against the Cherries, underlining his happiness with their play in recent weeks.
