Dr Hilary Jones showcases special temperature-testing helmet which could detect people with coronavirus

Dr Hilary Jones showed off a special temperature testing helmet on today’s Good Morning Britain which can be used in the fight against coronavirus.

The piece of equipment is equipped with an augmented reality display screen, an infrared camera, and a visible light camera, and it’s been reported it can detect temperatures to within 0.3 degrees Celsius of passers-by.

‘This is a helmet that detects people’s temperatures through the little sensor on the front,’ Dr Hilary explained.

‘I can detect 200 people’s temperatures in a minute wearing this. This could be of use on borders for ferries, for airplanes, for offices.’

He continued: ‘This is quite expensive this piece of kit, it’s several thousand pounds.

‘It does look intimidating, but it’s speedy. Of course, a fever is just one form of screening for Covid-19. Not everyone has a fever.’

On Wednesday, it was confirmed a further 176 people had died of coronavirus in the UK, raising the total to 43,906.

The figure covers deaths in all settings, including hospitals, care homes and the wider community.

As of 9am on July 1, there had been 9,662,051 tests, with 226,398 tests on June 30.

Elsewhere on today’s Good Morning Britain, Dr Hilary took a swipe at Donald Trump over his comments about wearing a face mask to protect against coronavirus.

The President admitted in a recent interview that he would have no problem being seen with a mask on and that he ‘sort of liked the way I looked’ when he had one on.

Addressing Trump’s comments alongside Ben Shephard and Ranvir Singh, Dr Hilary scorned: ‘I’m not sure we should be wearing masks for the look.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
