There have been another 38 deaths reported from coronavirus, bringing the UK’s death toll – as of Thursday – to 45,999.
The total number of lab-confirmed cases is now 302,301, with 846 people diagnosed in the past 24 hours – compared to 763 the day before – amid fears that a second wave could be on the way.
Meanwhile, the areas with the most rapidly rising Covid-19 infection rates in England have been revealed on a map as new NHS statistics show the rate in Oldham has surpassed the locally-locked-down city of Leicester.
