Coronavirus news live: UK death toll reaches 44,830 and face coverings to be made compulsory in shops in England from next week

Another 11 people have died from coronavirus, bringing the UK’s death toll to 44,830.

When it came to the individual nations, there were no new deaths of people who tested positive for coronavirus in Wales, with the number remaining at 1,541, Public Health Wales said.

Meanwhile, wearing face coverings in English shops and supermarkets will be made mandatory next week, No 10 has announced.

From July 24, any customers who do not comply with the new rule could face a fine of up to £100. Health Secretary Matt Hancock is expected to make a full statement on the fresh legislation on Tuesday.
